As an Engineer 1 you will assist senior engineers on a variety of projects that deliver enterprise mobile technology and solutions, support day-to-day wireless service operations, and contribute to long-term planning and integration within the City of Calgary. Primary duties include: Lead or support IT engineering and operational projects, including requirements gathering, cost estimating, technical specification development, project planning, implementation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and quality assurance through testing and monitoring. Provide day-to-day support for wireless infrastructure and devices, including troubleshooting network issues, resolving coverage problems, documenting procedures, and performing system upgrades and testing. Manage enterprise mobility solutions (e.g., MDM, mobile VPN) to ensure secure, compliant device access; oversee tangible and intangible mobility assets; and coordinate with wireless providers to uphold service levels, resolve billing issues, perform monthly audits, and maintain cost-effective operations. Research emerging mobile technologies, collaborate with stakeholders to identify evolving needs, and provide recommendations. Support wireless service analysis through costs and data analytics. Contribute to the preparation, review, and evaluation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for wireless services, software/equipment, and support contracts. Support cellular in-building enhancement projects and coordinate with vendors to improve indoor coverage and ensure compliance, while managing the life cycle of wireless infrastructure assets and optimizing operational processes. Qualifications A degree in Electrical, Telecommunications, or Computer Engineering or a related Engineering field. You must have a relevant professional engineering experience and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details . Experience with tier 2 or tier 3 hardware and systems support for wireless communication services, testing and certifying wireless products (iPhones, Android phones, aircards and modems) will be considered assets. Experience with the following will be considered assets: mobile devices and operating systems (iOS and Android), enterprise mobility management, network technologies, wireless networks including 5G, LTE and ultra narrow band, 2-way radio communication, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), Wi-Fi, authentication and Virtual Private network (VPN) technologies, MPLS, APN, firewalls, Internet of Things (IoT), wearable technology. Working knowledge of MS SQL, SQL databases, Power BI, Windows server administration, MS Power Platform, and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications will also be considered assets. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a team environment working collaboratively with both technical and non-technical customers and vendors. Strong technical and analytical skills, problem solving abilities, organizational and time management skills with the ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities, and a commitment to continuous learning.
