Department :Surgical Program – Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD)

Status : Permanent Part-time (Must provide availability of up to 0.5 FTE)

Hours: Various rotating; 7.5 hour shifts (Hours subject to change based on operational requirements)

Unit Profile:

MDRD provides service to the organization’s reprocessing needs of reusable equipment/instrumentation to support patient care in all clinical areas. MDR staff work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and accuracy is imperative. Day to day activity is full of variety as the changing needs of the Operating Room will determine the bulk of the workload. Emergency Room and Out Patient Departments as well as the Foot Clinic and the Code Blue Exchange Cart inject variety to the dynamic work environment.

This is what you’ll be doing:

You will be responsible for ensuring that the Medical Device Reprocessing Department provides reprocessed items to patients and clients throughout the organization in a manner that adheres to guidelines and standards set by organizations such as CSA (Canadian Standards Association), PIDAC (Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee), MDRAO (Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario) and Health Canada. The MDRT is also responsible for effectively communicating with the clients in the workplace in order to ensure all their reprocessing needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.

• Minimum grade 12 education required
• Current certificate from a recognized college level Medical Device Reprocessing Course or CSA Medical Device Reprocessing Certification required; combination of in-class and apprenticeship hours preferred.
• Ongoing CSA Recertification requirements to be maintained by applicant
• Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
• 1-year relevant experience in Medical Device Reprocessing
• Demonstrated experience using reprocessing equipment. For example, washer disinfectors, steam sterilizers, low temperature sterilizers
• Reprocessing of flexible endoscope experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
• Aptitude for working with delicate and heavy equipment
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
• Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
• Must be comfortable working alone if the situation occurs.

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Salary Scale: $23.35 – $25.68 per hour
